七飯町は、北海道農業近代化の発信基地として大きな役割を果たした、農業試験場「七重官園」（明治3年開業・明治27年閉鎖）が存在した地域です。北海道の開拓の歴史は、近代農業の歴史でもあり、その意味で七飯町は北海道始まりの地と言えるのです。
その開拓時にとても大切な役割を果たしたのが「どさんこ」と呼ばれる馬でした。
一方で、開拓は先住民の生活を脅かし、沢山の馬の命を犠牲にするなど必ずしも良い側面ばかりではないということも忘れてはいけません。
「Paard M usée（パド・ミュゼ）」では、このように様々な歴史を持つ過去の開拓から学び、馬をテーマに「人が自然と動物と協働する新しい未来」を世界に提案、「21世紀の開拓」を進めていきます。
An agricultural experimental station known as Nanae Kan-en (opened in 1870 and closed in 1894) in Nanae Town played a significant role in providing useful information for the promotion of agricultural modernization in Hokkaido. The history of development in Hokkaido’s pioneering era is synonymous with the development of modern agriculture.
In this context, Nanae Town was arguably the root of Hokkaido’s growth as we know it today.
